There's Only Been One Other Tenant. The Jeffrey Manufacturing
Company was the world’s leading producer of mining, conveying
and heavy industrial equipment for nearly 100 years, and was originally
founded on this site during the heart of the Industrial Revolution
in 1888. The Jeffrey Manufacturing Company has now found new life
as The Jeffrey.
The Jeffrey compound is comprised of two unique structures including
the original World Headquarters, built in 1924, and its adjacent
Research & Development building, now called the Metal Works.
Cityspace’s lead designer, Steve Turley, envisioned recreating
urban living space while preserving the exterior of The Jeffrey
Manufacturing Company. As result, each building reflects an individual
personality and respective styling to match. Great care was taken
to preserve the authenticity of both.
For example, in The Jeffrey building, the floor to ceiling marble
in the Grand Lobby echoes the greatness reflected in Jeffrey’s
Headquarters 73 years ago. Today, the same elegance is a standard
feature throughout each residence. Renewing the original character
of the building, unit interiors are refined with crown molding,
coffered ceilings, hardwood flooring and the finest period reproduction
fixtures.
The adjacent Research & Development Building, re-engineered
as The Metal Works, serves as the project’s second personality.
True to its origins, the units in this building are truly re-engineered
to capture the form and function of raw, industrial loft space.
Residents will enjoy reconditioned concrete flooring and original
steel beams supporting their funky industrial surroundings.
The Jeffrey and Metal Works buildings have been faithfully restored
and much of the original materials will remain or be reconditioned
with CitySpace’s modern interpretation.
